Mekong Quilts![]() Mekong Quilts is a non-profit organization founded in 2001. Mekong Quilts employs women in communities northeast of Ho Chi Minh City (Duc Linh, Tanh Linh and Ham Thuan Nam in Binh Thuan Province) and Long My in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. Mekong Quilts also offers employment opportunities to Cambodian women in the village of Rumdoul, near the border of Vietnam and Cambodia.
There are now seven shops and over 340 women in full time employment. The quilters receive training, a fair wage and other benefits and work in a safe and comfortable environment. Many of the women who work for the project have doubled their income, which ensures the education of their children. In the partnership with Sharing International, Mekong Quilts will do training for single mothers in Vietnam and Cambodia, employ them permanently, ensure to give them a fair wage and a good working environment. Sharing International will pay for training, machinery cost and import all of the products from these single mothers to sell abroad. With this partnership, we create stable jobs and a steady income for single mothers in Vietnam and Cambodia and thereby secure the education and good life for their children. |
RENEWRENEW stands for: "Restoring the Environment and Neutralizing the Effects of the War"
Established and launched in August 2001, Project RENEW is a model of integrated and comprehensive management in the field of mine action, the first in Vietnam. In accordance with international standards, the project embraces major pillars of mine action including: (i) surveys and assessments for development of a mine action database, (ii) clearance, (iii) risk education, (iv) victim assistance, and (v) community development. All of these components are managed by a coordination office. One of RENEW's most innovative programs, thanks to a partnership with the Humpty Dumpty Institute (HDI) of New York City, is the "Mushrooms with a Mission" initiative launched two years ago. Building on a small income-generating project, which provided |

training and inputs to disabled families so they could grow mushrooms, HDI saw the potential for a much expanded effort with significant benefits not only for disabled families but to expand sustainable agricultural production and economic development in Quang Tri Province. HDI and RENEW will create market demand domestically and possibly for future export. 100 landmine survivor families, female-headed households and ethnic minorities in Quang Tri Province are receiving material, technical support and training. And there are more on the waiting list.
In the partnership with Sharing International and in the connection with ''Mushrooms with a mission'' project, RENEW will do training and provide technical support for single mothers as well as buy all mushrooms from their production. Sharing International will pay for the material to build the green house for mushroom cultivation. It costs USD 600 to build up a green house. With this partnership, Sharing International creates stable jobs and a steady income for single mothers in the rural area in Vietnam to secure the education and good life for their children.
